By KMAN Staff on May 14, 2012 Local News

KMAN news has confirmed that the juvenile killed in a Pottawatomie County hunting accident this past weekend was Mitchell “Gus” Hermreck, 15,   of Onaga.

The Pottawatomie county sheriff’s department indicated they were contacted at about 7:15 Saturday morning of an accident near Cow Creek and Firefly roads in rural Havensville. Hermreck was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives with the Sheriff’s office and Kansas Wildlife and Parks learned Hermreck had been turkey hunting with a friend and was accidentally shot by the friend.

Mass of Christian Burial for Hermreck will be Wednesday morning. The Chapel Oaks Funeral home in Onaga is handling arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the Mitchell Hermreck Memorial fund, to be designated later.
