Brownback offers life lessons to Young Men

For the first time in many years, a Kansas Governor addressed the young men at the Kansas Boys’ State session here in Manhattan. This year’s session marked the diamond 75th Anniversary of the event in Kansas.

Governor Sam Brownback gave advice on several areas of livelihood, particularly stressing to the group that developing strong friendships is important in life.

“A lot of times it’s harder for guys to form strong friendships,” Brownback says. “It’s not just a casual friendship we seek, but it’s one that goes deep within one another.”

Brownback says that it is also important to have a mentor for life’s difficulties.

“Find somebody you think is really living life well, ” Brownback says. “And ask them ‘how do you do this?’.”

The Kansas Boys’ State week-long event involves young men entering their senior year of high school creating a mock society and government and learning how to run it efficiently.

While addressing the group on Wednesday evening, Brownback jokingly pushed a piece of legislation for the mock government officials to consider.

“I’ve got a 14 year old daughter and I would love to you guys outlaw Justin Bieber or something like that.” Brownback says.

The group then agreed with Brownback cheering at the suggested item.
