Sunset Zoo’s Wine in the Wild

Animals were seen, wine was had and support of Sunset Zoo continued.

On Saturday, June 2, Sunset Zoo had their sixth annual Wine in the Wild event.  This year had a little something special to add as it gave guests a chance for a sneak peek into the new Nature Exploration Center.

Wine in the Wild began as a way to raise money to building the center and has continued to grow in size and support.  This year’s event looked to bring in about 450 to 500 people, said Mark Ellner, vice president of Friends of Sunset Zoo and co-chair of  Wine in the Wild,

Throughout the zoo, docent and educational animals were interacting with guests and five stations were set to offer a sampling of wine and food.  People were also given an opportunity to wander the Nature Exploration Center before Sunday’s grand opening.

During the VIP reception in one of the distance education labs, a conference with Garden City’s zoo was occuring to give people an idea of how the Nature Exploration Center is going to continue their goal of educating children.

The Wine in the Wild lead way to the Nature Exploration Center’s grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony on Sunday June 3.
