Representatives from the City of Manhattan, Riley County, Pottawatomie County and Geary County were present at the joint city/counties meeting Thursday evening as discussion of the MPO, or Metropolitan Planning Organization, continued.
At the meering, Geary County Commissioner Ben Bennett made a request asking to allow Junction City and Geary County to be included within the boundaries of the MPO.
Pottawatomie County, however, did not seem really invested in trying to gain more territory within the boundaries than necessary as Wamego has not been pushed within the lines.
The discussion between area officials led to the selection of the proposed map 4a as the general boundary lines. This map includes a small area within Pottawatomie County, Manhattan, Riley County, Ogden, Junction City, parts of Geary County and Fort Riley.
Another part of the discussion concerned the housing of the MPO and there was some talk of hosting it within the Flint Hills Regional Council.
This issue will be making its way back before the public as the designation agreement is due in November and the drop dead date is in March.

Sales taxes were on the agenda on Thursday night’s joint City of Manhattan, and Riley County joint meeting.
However, as the agenda item came to the floor Manhattan Mayor Loren Pepperd told the assembly that the city wasn’t ready to give any definitive presentation until after a work session scheduled for next Tuesday.
The sales tax issue was tabled until after the work session is completed.
