Kansas City will host the MLB all-star game next week, and the hometown faithful will get to see at least one Royal amongst the game’s best. Fan favorite Billy Butler was named to the American League roster as a designated hitter. Butler is making his first all-star appearance, and is hitting .297 with 16 homers and 48 RBI this season. Royals’ closer Jonathan Broxton is among five players in the AL Final Vote. Broxton has 20 saves in 23 opportunities, and has a 2.05 ERA. He will duke it out four other pitchers for the last spot on the American League squad, Yu Darvish of the Rangers, Ernesto Frieri of the Angels, Jason Hammel of the Orioles, and Jake Peavy of the White Sox.
