For the first time in school history, the Kansas State Football team is ranked #1 in the Bowl Championship Series Standings, which were released on Sunday evening.

With Alabama’s loss on Saturday to Texas A&M the Wildcats moved into the top spot with an average score of .9674. Oregon moved up to #2 with a score of .9497 and Notre Dame was #3 with an average of .9396. Rounding out the top five were Alabama now at #4 and Georgia checking in at #5.

K-State achieved its top ranking despite being ranked #2 in both the Associated Press Sportswriters Poll and USA Today Coaches Poll thanks to a higher computer ranking than Oregon which is now #1 in both human polls. For the Wildcats, it’s the first number one ranking of any kind since the team was atop the Coaches Poll from November 8-29 1998. Their ranking in the Coaches Poll is the highest since then while the #2 AP ranking is the highest since October 8, 2000.

The 10-0 Wildcats will return to Texas this coming Saturday to battle Baylor in a Nationally Televised contest beginning at 7 p.m. on ESPN. Powercat Gameday will be live from The Salty Dog in Waco beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday.
