Kelsey Bone scored 22 points as she missed just two shots in 13 attempts, and #22 Texas A&M beat the K-State women 83-60 on Wednesday afternoon in the opening game of the World Vision Classic in Las Vegas. The Cats did build a three point lead over the former Big 12 member Aggies with 10:55 left in the first half on the strength of five three pointers. Texas A&M though would take the lead by eight at halftime, and K-State was done in by 22 turnovers. Plus the Cats went cold shooting beyond the arc in the second half; they didn’t connect on any of their eight three-point attempts in the final 20 minutes.
K-State (7-2) was led in scoring by sophomore guard Haley Texada with 19 points. Brittany Chambers played 28 minutes for the Cats after spraining her right ankle four days ago when many thought she wouldn’t take the floor this week in Vegas, and scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. Bri Craig added 11 points for K-State. A&M (8-3) won their eighth straight game after opening the season with three losses in a row to top ten teams. Courtney Walker had 16 points, and Adrienne Pratcher chipped in with 13 points for the Aggies.
In a six-team bracket at the World Vision Classic, K-State actually drops to the winners’ bracket semifinals with a loss to A&M. The Cats gets the unenviable task of facing #5 Notre Dame at 5:00pm Thursday afternoon at Cox Pavilion. Pregame begins at 4:30 in Vegas from the K-State Sports Network on SportsRadio 1350 KMAN with Brian Smoller and Danielle Zanotti.
