Several months ago KMAN did a story about a Pirate radio station operating in Manhattan. The individual has been fined $10,000 by the Federal Communications Commission.
In a release from the FCC office in Kansas City, Glen Rubash, licensee of amateur radio station KCOGPV in Manhattan, apparently willfully and repeatedly violated the communications Act of 1934, by operating an unlicensed radio transmitter on the frequency of 88.3 megahertz (MHz).
A complaint came to FCC’s enforcment bureau in Kansas City and used direction-finding techniquest to locate the source of the radio frequency transmissions at a Manhattan residence. The agents reportedly located a transmitter and antenna in an unlocked detached garage. The FCC document adds Rubash later told FCC officials the pirate station had been on the air for two months.
Rubash has 30 days to either appeal the penalty or pay up.
At the time of the discovery, Manhattan Broadcasting reported the pirate radio station was rebroadcasting from an online station known as the Republic Broadcasting Network, with the programming described as anti-government, including mention of alleged national and global conspiracies.
