There are now seven candidates who are trying for a seat on the Manhattan City Commission.
One name that’s probably familiar is Bob Strawn, a former Manhattan Mayor and City Commissioner.
He announced his candidacy to KMAN news Wednesday morning, reminding us it’s been two years since he left the city commission, which he says has given him time to recharge the batteries, so to speak.
Strawn adds he has much the same views as when he served on the commission before which includes ethics in government, managing the debt, keeping taxes that are rational and level, growth that we continue to need whether that’s the National Bio and Agri defense facility or other areas, and delivery of city services in an efficient and effective manner. Strawn also says he thinks people are in place now who might accept the notion that it’s time to look at consolidation of city and county government
