Rodney McGruder scored 20 points and Angel Rodriguez added 16 as 13th-ranked Kansas State overcame yet another game with foul trouble to pull away from Texas 81-69 Saturday Night at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin.

K-State managed to a take a 40-32 lead into halftime despite allowing the Longhorns to shoot 22 free throws in the first half. The good news for K-State was that Texas was only able to knock down half of those shots from the charity stripe. In the second half, the Wildcats stretched the lead to as much as 19 points but the Longhorns would not quit and kept making small runs but never really threatening K-State.

K-State also had another good night from beyond the arc by making nine three point baskets in 18 attempts. Joining McGruder and Rodriguez in double figures were Shane Southwell with 11 and Thomas Gipson with 10. Myck Kobango playing his fourth game back from a 23-game suspension led all scorers with 24 points while Sheldon McClellan added 15.

Kansas State (22-5, 11-3) remained in a first place tie with Kansas atop the Big 12 standings after the Jayhawks routed TCU 74-48 earlier Saturday in Lawrence. K-State is back home on Monday to face Texas Tech at Bramlage Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
