Doller & Busch Silence Northern Colorado

0
By KMAN Staff on March 13, 2013 K-State Sports

Senior right hander Jake Doller threw seven innings of one-hit ball and the K-State baseball team shut out Northern Colorado 11-0 on Tuesday night at Tointon Family Stadium.  Doller (2-0) surrendered only a leadoff double in the fourth inning and a one-out walk in the fifth as he struck out six Bears.  It was the second win for Doller in as many weeks.  He’s blossomed so far in his role as a mid-week starter, also earning a win last week against Niagara without giving up an earned run.  Freshman right hander Landon Busch still has yet to allow a hit in five career appearances for K-State as he only walked one batter in two innings to finish the game.  The last K-State one-hitter came two years ago to the day when Matt Applegate combined with James Allen in a 3-0 blanking of Long Island.

Shane Conlon extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a two-run homer to right field, which touched off a four-run first inning.  Conlon tied Carter Jurica for the longest hitting streak to begin a season in the Brad Hill era at K-State.  Conlon, Jon Davis and Joe Goodwin each had two hits to lead the Wildcats.  Davis also went yard with a solo shot in the fifth, his team-leading fourth of the year.  Freshman Clayton Dalrymple led K-State with three RBI’s, all coming as he cleared the bases with a pinch-hit double in the eighth inning.

Nick Miller (2-1) took the loss for Northern Colorado, giving up four runs on four hits in an inning-plus of work.  The Bears used three other pitchers including former Wildcat Robert Hawkins, who went four innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits.

K-State and Northern Colorado will meet up for one game on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00pm.  The BD4 Distributing Pregame begins at 2:30 from Tointon Family Stadium on SportsRadio 1350 KMAN with Matt Walters and Rob Voelker.
