In what was their most complete effort of the season with mind boggling numbers put up at the plate and sterling efforts on the mound from a trio of pitchers, K-State dominated a doubleheader against Bethune-Cookman in 12-0 and 9-2 victories on Friday afternoon at Tointon Family Stadium.
In a battle of the Wildcats, K-State would gradually build a 6-0 lead against Bethune-Cookman in game one, before the offense punctuated the effort with six runs in the seventh inning. #1 starter Nate Williams (3-3) regained the form he found early in the season that was missing his last two starts, striking out a career-high seven in six scoreless innings. He gave up just two hits and worked around five walks. Freshman right hander Landon Busch pitched three perfect innings to finish the game for his first save at K-State.
Joe Flattery only allowed one hit and just three Bethune-Cookman baserunners going into the ninth inning, in a complete game victory in game two. Flattery (2-2) struck out five, giving up four hits and two runs. K-State would score two first inning runs, but left runners stranded on second and third with nobody out. Eventually, K-State broke through for seven runs in the last four innings.
Collectively for the doubleheader, Ross Kivett led K-State at the plate with six hits as he scored five runs and knocked in three. Jared King had five hits, including a solo homer and a pair of doubles. King also had a team leading seven RBI’s. Tanner Witt and R.J. Santigate each had five hits as well, and combined for five RBI’s and six runs scored.
K-State will go for the series sweep against Bethune-Cookman on Saturday afternoon with a 2:00pm first pitch at Tointon Family Stadium. The BD4 Distributing pregame show begins at 1:30 on SportsRadio 1350 KMAN.
