Shane Conlan drove in three runs with two hits including a home run while four other Wildcats contributed two hits apiece as the Kansas State Baseball team blasted Texas Tech 12-2 to complete a sweep of the three-game Big 12 series before 1,240 Sunday afternoon at Tointon Family Stadium.
The two teams traded runs in the first two innings on a pair of sacrifice flies before K-State erupted for six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Austin Fisher started the rally with a double to center field and was driven home on a run-scoring single by Blair DeBord. DeBord came home on Mitch Meyer’s RBI triple to right center field to make the score 3-1. Tanner Witt’s sacrifice fly put the Wildcats up by three runs and Jared King made the score 5-1 on a run-scoring single to left. An infield hit for an RBI and Jon Davis’ single to right finished off the inning which saw K-State bat around.
After Tech plated a run in the top of the seventh inning, the Bat Cats scored three more runs in the bottom of the frame when Davis was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Fisher stroked a two-run double down the left field line. The final two runs came in the bottom of the eight when Conlan drilled a Justin Bethard pitch just over the left field wall invoking the 10-run rule and ending the game.
Blake McFadden pitched five innings and allowed just five hits with two strikeouts to pick up his third win of the season while Corey Taylor took the loss for Texas Tech.
Kansas State (23-10, 6-3) will put their five-game winning streak on the line when they host Wichita State Tuesday night at Tointon Family Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
