The third athletic director at Kansas State University passed away on Sunday at the age of 96 in Southport, North Carolina. Bebe Lee, a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Hall of Fame, held the post at K-State from 1956 until 1968. Following a successful stint as head basketball coach at Colorado, which culminated with a Final Four appearance in 1955, Lee became the youngest athletics director in the Big Seven Conference when he took over the Wildcat athletic program. Among the Stanford graduate’s accomplishments was the acquisition of land to build what is now Bill Snyder Family Stadium, along with the eventual location of the Wildcats’ current baseball, track and field, and basketball facilities. Lee suceeded legendary K-State AD Mike Ahearn, and his tenure was followed by “Mr. K-State”, Ernie Barrett.
