A Manhattan man charged with the killing of a Fort Riley soldier, and the shooting of four others was in Riley County Court on Monday morning via video conference from jail.
43-year-old Mathew Wilson is charged with possible first degree murder, four counts of attempted first degree murder, and aggravated burglary.
On Monday defense attorney Larry McRell, Riley County prosecutor Barry Wilkerson, and Division I court judge John F. Bosch agreed on Moving Wilson’s preliminary hearing to June 25th and 26th. The preliminary hearing was initially set to take place in May.
McRell warned he may not be done with discovery at that date, and a status hearing was set for April 29th at 10:30 to ascertain if the defense was ready for the hearing.
Wilson is charged with killing his neighbor 22-year-old Micheal Lowery in the early morning hours of April 7th. Also injured in the shooting were 23-year-old Alexya Mailea, 23-year-old Christine Kim, and 22-year-old Dustin Ferguson.
Several others escaped injury in the incident which occurred at 900 Garden Way in Manhattan. They were 28-year-old Joel Solano, 24-year-old Erica Campos, and 1-year-old Elyana Solano.
Solano, Lowery, and Ferguson were all from 4th Brigade and recently returned from a combat tour in Afghanistan.
