K-State NFL Draft Hopefuls Waiting to Hear Name Called

0
By KMAN Staff on April 25, 2013 K-State Sports, Professional Sports, Sports

With plenty of fanfare, the three-day NFL draft will kick off on Thursday night at Radio City Music Hall in New York City with the first round in what’s become a made-for-TV event. Rounds two and three will transpire on Friday night, while the final four rounds will be Saturday afternoon. The Kansas City Chiefs hold the #1 overall pick after a 2-14 season in 2012, and are expected to take an offensive tackle; either Texas A&M’s Luke Joeckel or Central Michigan’s Eric Fisher.

There’s virtually no doubt that K-State’s streak of having at least one player taken in the NFL will extend to two decades, dating back to 1994. According to most mock drafts, the Wildcats’ leading tackler the last two years and linebacker Arthur Brown will be selected in the second round. Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com and Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com though have Brown going #20 overall in the first round to the Chicago Bears. Sports Illustrated’s Peter King and Josh Norris of NFL.com have Brown being picked in the final pick of the first round at #32 to the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens.

In a pair of full seven-round mock drafts, Brown goes #49 overall in the second round to the New York Giants according to ESPN Scouts, Inc., and #50 overall in the second round to the Bears by WalterFootball.com.

The only other K-State player in a mock draft is leading wide receiver Chris Harper. WalterFootball.com pegs Harper to the Ravens with the #130 overall pick in the fourth round, and ESPN Scouts, Inc. has Harper going to the Tampa Bay Bucs at #147 overall in the fifth round.

The 2013 NFL Draft gets underway on Thursday night at 7:00pm, and SportsRadio 1350 KMAN will have coverage from ESPN Radio from 6:00 to 9:00pm.
