After about a month of speculation, with word of Manhattan’s Director of Parks and Recreation Curt Loupe on an unexplained leave of absence announced March 15th, the city of Manhattan has indicated that Loupe is resigning his position, as of April 10th. Loupe began his employment with the city of Manhattan in November of 2006.
The news release indicates Loupe relocated his residency back to Topeka last year for personal reasons, with Loupe quoted as saying he pledged to the city manager he would give him five years with this position, and he’s served more than six years.
City Manager Ron Fehr thanks Loupe for his service and has apointed Assistant city Manager Jason Hilgers to serve as interim director. A national recruitment is planned to fill the position permanently.
Accomplishments mentioned during Loupe’s service include the renovation, expansion, and modernization of the aquatics facilities at city Park, CiCo Park, and Northview. Other improvements include the Cattery at the T. Russell Reitz Animal Shleter, City Park splash park and playground, Douglas Community Center, and Flint Hills Discovery Center and Blue Earth Plaza.
