Pottawatomie County Law Enforcement Report 4/22/13

Pott VehicleA string of burglaries are effecting the Pottawatomie County area , specifically the rural part of Manhattan.

Sometime between the overnight hours Saturday, April 20 into the early morning on Sunday, April 21, an unknown person or persons broke into several trailers along the Green Valley Drive area.

Taken were construction tools and construction equipment.

The total amount of loss is estimated to be over $3,000.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office at 785-457-3353.

Friday had the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Department working on two separate manhunts, both of which came to a close.

Jon Getzlaff, 24, escaped from the Pottawatomie County Jail by crawling through a fence in the exercise yard at about 9:30 am Friday.

Getzlaff eluded police, but was discovered at about 12:30 am Sunday, April 21 in the attic of an acquaintance house in Westmoreland.

Getzlaff was taken back into custody.

Aaron Winterman, 26 of Westmoreland, was also arrested for felony obstructing apprehension.

Winterman’s bond was set at $10,000.

A little before 1:30 am Friday, April 20, Sergeant Dale Rice of the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office attempted to make a traffic stop in Emmett.

The suspect vehicle, a 1983 Chevrolet Suburban accelerated away for a few blocks and stopped on Crystal Springs Rad at Highway 63.

The vehicle than reversed into Rice’s 2013 Ford Police Interceptor, disabling it.

Rice was unhurt, but the suspect escaped.

After an investigation, the suspect was determined to be Andrew Schindler, 46, of St. Mary’s.

Schindler had reportedly stolen the 1983 Suburban from a home in St. Mary’s.

The St. Mary’s Police Department along with the Sheriff’s Deputy and a Kansas Highway Patrol tracking dog, pursued Schindler in a wooded area south of St. Mary’s.

At about 10:45 am, Schindler was located, arrested and held in the Pottawatmoie County Jail on a $50,000 bond for aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, theft, and fleeing to elude.
