    RCPD Cruisers
    Update: Thursday-10:30a.m.

Details were released by Riley County police Thursday morning regarding a fleeing and eluding case that caused public safety concerns for about an hour last night at North Manhattan and Kimball Avenues.

As previously reported Thursday morning on KMAN, Devoris Newson, 26, of Junction City was taken into custody just before nine Wednesday night on possible charges of attempting to elude and reckless driving.

Police confirmed later in the morning that Newson was spotted by an off-duty law enforcement officer near Manhattan Town Center. Authorities were looking for him on a warrant out of Texas. While his charges there are not specified, the warrant involves a $120,000 bond amount.

Newson refused to stop for local police, and attempted to elude law enforcement, with speeds of up to 50 miles per hour through town, ending up in the Kimball/North Manhattan area.

He apparently left his vehicle on foot, with an attempt to locate by RCPD, as well as the Kansas Highway patrol, Kansas State Police, and Pottawatomie County sheriff’s office.

He was apprehended a little before nine. His bond in Riley county is set at $5,000.

    Update: Thursday morning-7a.m.

An arrest made at 1425 Flint Hills Place may be related to an incident reported Wednesday night in that general location. Thursday morning’s Riley County Police arrest report includes Devoris Newson, 26, of Junction City, who was taken into custody just before nine Wednesday night on possible charges of attempting to elude and reckless driving. Newson’s bond has been set at $5,000.An incident report with the same number as Newson’s arrest indicates a fleeing and eluding case beginning at the Manhattan Town Center.

As KMAN news told you Wednesday night a traffic stop and subsequent investigation, conducted by the Riley County Police in the area of North Manhattan and Kimball Avenues came to a peaceful resolution Wednesday night. Police announced shortly after nine p.m. there were no injuries, and no reason for further public safety concerns.
