    Area Golfers Compete at State

    The Manhattan High boys golf team finished 7th in the 6A state tournament at Meadowbrook Golf & Country Club in Prairie Village on Monday.   The Tribe shot a team score of 323.  Blue Valley West is the state champ with a score of 300, Shawnee Mission East was six shots back for second, while Washburn Rural was another stroke back in third.  Scott Woods led MHS, finishing 18th with a 78.

    Riley County competed as a team for the Sand Green state title on Monday at Tipton Oaks Golf Course. The team finished 3rd overall by shooting a team score of 331. Cy Bassett finished 4th place individually with a 76. Matt Snyder finished 8th and John Burnett placed 11th as both players shot 80.

    At the 4A state tournament at Cherry Oaks in Cheney, Ryan Elder of Wamego tied for 13th with a 76, and Parker Waters turned in a 94.  Plus, Frankfort’s Brett Kenworthy carded a 115 in 1A at Emporia Municipal Golf Course.
