SALINA, Kan. (AP) Salina police say a 10-year-old girl is hospitalized after she suffered an electrical shock while she and three other children were playing during a storm.
The girl was taken to a Wichita hospital Wednesday evening after receiving the shock while playing near downtown Salina. Her condition was not immediately available. The other children were taken to a Salina hospital.
Police Lt. Allen Salzman says the shocking occurred in an area near Campbell Plaza in downtown Salina.
Westar Energy released a statement saying it did not believe its equipment was involved but the utility would work with investigators to help determine a cause.
The National Weather Service says Salina received more than 2 inches of rain between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday, accompanied by severe lightning.
