The 85th Kansas state FFA convention will draw to a close Friday afternoon at the K-State campus. More than 2,000 FFA members, agricultural educators and supporters gathered for the event.

2012-2013 State secretary, Chelsea Smith of Hays tells KMAN this last year has been very rewarding. Smith says she’ll stay involved with FFA this summer.

2012-2013 State President, Emily Beneda of Wilson says the convention’s theme is “Grow”. Smith adds the convention theme “Grow” inspires members’ development into future leaders in agriculture .

During the three day convention, guests heard from the retiring state FFA officer team and motivational speakers, including K-State linebacker Tre Walker and Greg Peterson of the popular Peterson Farm Brothers YouTube song parodies.

For this year’s state service project, FFA members gathered canned foods with a goal weight of 850 pounds. The food will be donated to the Flint Hills Bread Basket as a “thank you” for hosting the 85th state convention.
