Starting on Tuesday the Manhattan Homecare and Hospice is hosting a new training program.
The national We Honor Veterans program is working to train veterans to help other veterans through serious illnesses, and end of life issues.
Christine Nolte, Director of Development at Homecare and Hospice, says the training is an important step towards helping the veteran population care for each other. Nolte says veterans in a crisis situation are more likely to allow another veteran for support them through the trying times. The training will equip participants to handle items like VA benefits, and grief and bereavement.
Volunteers will be able to tailor their volunteer time according to their schedules. Nolte says that includes those who want to be on call at anytime, or even just a couple of hours on one specific day.
The training begins on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Homecare and Hospice offices located on 3801 Vanesta Drive in Manhattan. There will be three sessions all lasting an hour and a half on the following Tuesdays. Participants who attend all three sessions will receive certification to work within the volunteer program.
