During a press conference on Thursday afternoon at Junction City Police Headquarters law enforcement officials gave more details on an intensive operation dubbed “Operation Adabag” which focused on cracking down on an extensive crack cocaine drug ring.
So far authorities have arrested 90 suspects in the case, and expect arrests to continue for some time. The investigation involved the use of undercover officers, confidential informants, and surveillance over the span of the last 13 months. The Geary County attorney’s office, Grandview Plaza Police department, and KBI conducted the investigation.
54 search warrants were conducted, and over 180 law enforcement personnel were involved from local and state agencies. Junction City Chief of Police Tim Brown wanted to especially thank the members of the Heart of America Police Dog Association who provided canine support.
18 vehicles were confiscated in the operation along with 16 firearms. Authorities say crack cocaine was also seized at various sites searched throughout the operation.
17 children were displaced by the arrests, and are now in protective custody.
Riley County Police Director Brad Schoen congratulated the combined task force and said this should send a message to bad guys…”there’s no where to hide.”
