The thunderstorms and high winds that moved through the Manhattan area and other parts of Northeast Kansas late Saturday night left behind downed power lines, trees and twisted metal.

Todd Gilmore, owner of Manhattan Wrecker Service reported damage to his building and property in the Manhattan Industrial Park. He said he was in his office when he heard the loud noises. Gilmore discovered that a couple of garage doors had been turned inside out, an awning was completely blown off, semi trailers in the back of the building were on their side and a chain link fence was blown several feet away from its posts.

Other businesses had some pallets scattered by the winds and there were also some trees that were knocked down by the winds.

Pottawatomie County Assistant Fire Manager Bruce Brazzle was at Manhattan Wrecker early Sunday morning investigating the damage and told KMAN while it’s too early to tell he speculates the damage may have been caused by a microburst. Brazzle expects to speak with the weather service later Sunday.

Brazzle also said the roof of a trailer house in Emmett was blown off and while there were occupants inside everyone was reported to be all right. Meanwhile, in the city of Washington, Kansas four of six transmission lines were reported down leaving some parts of the city without power according to a Facebook post. There were also other power outages reported in Manhattan, Junction City, Riley, Leonardville, Olsburg, St. George and Westmoreland.

No injuries have been reported. Check out our photo gallery of some of the damage from Saturday night’s storms here.
