WICHITA, Kan. (AP) Wichita’s school superintendent is asking the district to spend $3 million to improve school security.
The school board will consider superintendent John Allison’s request at its meeting next Monday.
Allison says the money is needed to install high-definition cameras, computers, keyless-entry doors, a revamped dispatch center and more.
He has proposed a contract with Aventura Technologies Inc. to install and launch a centralized surveillance system that would monitor more than 100 schools and other sites.
The district’s current surveillance system includes video cameras and digital video receivers that were installed through a grant nine years ago.
The Wichita Eagle reports the a report on the proposal says the system is prone to equipment malfunctions and doesn’t cover enough area.
