trolley tourStarting at the new home of the Wonder Workshop Children’s Museum, the Call Me Manhattan trolley tour provided Manhattan residents the opportunity to view historical sites and homes.

Some of the sites featured on the tour included:  Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, George Giles’ house, Phi Beta Sigma house, Wyandotte Colony Goodnow Park, and Henry Strong’s house.  At all of the 22 sites, an informational panel displaying a telephone number with a code, allowed participants to access the audio history of the home/place which shared the stories of the families who established them.

The event was donations only, to benefit the construction of the new Wonder Workshop location on 506 S. 4th street.

Workshop Director, Richard Pitts mentioned the cleaning of the house is starting to come along and many things have been donated, such as plumbing and air from Bob’s Plumbing.

Pitts said, “we are waiting on the permit from the city, to start on the real interior construction”.
