    Deer Causes Fatal Car Accident

A Silver Lake woman died in an accident on I-70 in Wabaunsee County Sunday night. Kayla Lowrey, 22, died in the one vehicle crash, reported shortly before 11:30 three miles west of Maple Hill.

The Kansas Highway patrol reports Lowrey was driving a 2007 Pontiac G-6 four door passenger car westbound on I-70 in the left lane when a deer ran in front of the vehicle from the south. Lowrey hit the brakes to avoid the deer and the vehicle began skidding sideways and entered the center median. The Pontiac impacted a washout and rolled several times across the eastbound lanes and came to rest facing southwest partially in the right lane of eastbound I-70.

A passenger in the vehicle  Grace Holmes, 22, of Topeka, was taken to Stormont Vail in Topeka, where she has since been released. Both Lowrey and Holmes had seatbelts on.
