The Kansas City Symphony played in front of a sold-out crowd Saturday evening at Fort Riley’s Historic Main Post. Over 5,000 Spectators from all over the area came to witness the 8th annual Symphony in the Flint Hills.
The day also featured heritage and culture presentations which displayed the natural history of the tallgrass prairie and the history of Fort Riley. Visitors took trips to the First Territorial Capitol, river walks, tours of Custer’s House, and more. After sunset and the orchestra played its last number, spectators danced the night away and gazed at the stars in Cavalry Parade Field.
Symphony in the Flint Hills has a significant impact on the area. The event employs a staff of four, draws 700 volunteers from 9 states, and has contributed over $5,000,000 to the Flint Hills economy to date.
