The unemployment rate in the Manhattan metro area went up a little bit. The July numbers for the metro area, which includes Riley, Pottawatomie, and Geary counties shows a six percent rate, compared to 5.7 the month before and 5.9 last year at the same time.
The city of Manhattan by itself is 5.1 percent, up from June’s 4.9 percent and last year’s five percent.
Other area county rates include Riley at 5.2, Pottawatomie at 5.8, Clay at 5.3, and Geary, which always tends to be a bit higher was 7.8 percent.
The Manhattan metro area’s six percent is still the lowest in the state, with the Lawrence metro area having 6.1 percent.
