At Wednesday’s Manhattan Ogden school board meeting, a decision was made on which direction the budget for the 2013-2014 school year will go, but the decision was far from unanimous as it ended with a split vote of 4-3. The three opposing Option 4 of the budget was board members Aaron Estabrook, Darrel Edie, and Leah Fliter.
Option 4 would increase the mill levy to 52.464, which for home owners would be a $73 increase.
The notice was approved for publication and will be brought back at their next meeting on August 21.
At Anthony Middle School, some 7th grade students are looking at a change made to their schedule this year as a class has been taken from their choices.
Vickie Kline, Principal at Anthony, made the decision to eliminate the 7th grade choir.
Kline explained the reasoning behind the elimination of the class was due to the fact the teacher splits her time and there just wasn’t enough for both 7th and 8th grades. Therefore, the decision was made to allow 8th grade to have the opportunity.
Parents and students were in attendance to give their opinions as Shelly Williams, a parent, explained choir gives students an opportunity to find where they belong.
Though, the board showed support for the class, with classes beginning next week and a lack of money, there really isn’t much time to do anything. The administration did, however, mention they would look into other possiblities to bring the class back.
The board did approve unanimousl a new board policy, the GAAF Emergency Safety Interventions.
