Bruce Chen Solid as Royals win 5-1

The Royals began a huge four game series with the Boston Red Sox last night in Kansas City and Bruce Chen was lights out as KC wins game one of the series 5-1.

The Royals (59-53) won for the 16th time in 20 games since the All-Star break. The Red Sox, who have the best record in the American League, lost for only the third time in 10 games.

Chen (5-0), who was making his fifth start since beginning the season in the bullpen, did not allow a runner past first base until the eighth and retired 11 in a row in one stretch. He yielded five singles, walked one and struck out two. The Royals offense could only salvage six hits but the Red Sox defense helped out the Royals by committing three errors in the game.

Game two of the four game series tonight at Kauffman Stadium, 7:10 pm the scheduled first pitch time.
