TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Kansas Court of Appeals nominee Caleb Stegall is preparing to answer questions in writing and provide documents to a legislative committee that will review his appointment by Gov. Sam Brownback.
Stegall faces a Wednesday afternoon deadline for submitting a completed questionnaire to the Senate Judiciary Committee. He will also provide copies of policy statements, memos and articles he’s written and speeches he’s delivered during his legal career.
Judiciary Committee Chairman Jeff King said his office planned to make Stegall’s materials public by Wednesday evening.
Stegall is Brownback’s chief counsel. The governor nominated him last week to fill a new seat on the state’s second-highest court.
The Senate will consider Stegall’s appointment during a special session of the Legislature that begins Tuesday, with a Judiciary Committee hearing that afternoon.
