The state of Kansas has recognized a Manhattan retirement community for improvements within their facility’s program. The Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community was awarded the Promoting Excellent Alternatives in Kansas (PEAK) award Thursday for focusing their community toward a person-centered care program.
Person-centered care allows Meadowlark residents to have a say in their day-to-day lives including when they would like to eat and when they would like to sleep.
Staff members, residents and state officials were in attendance of the award ceremony as Secretary for the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services, Shawn Sullivan presented the award to CEO Lonnie Baker. Sullivan, who worked at Meadowlark in college, shared that it was a great experience to present the PEAK award to the facility.
During the ceremony, Meadowlark staff members spoke of the changes that have taken place because of person-centered care and the positive effects it has on the residents and other employees.
For the last 10 years, the PEAK awards have been issued to retirement facilities in Kansas for making significant improvements to become a person-centered care facility in the targeted areas of resident choice, staff empowerment, home-environment and meaningful life activities.
Retirement communities in Augusta, Columbus, Hesston, Inman, Meade, Olathe and Topeka were also presented with a PEAK award.
