RCPD Captain Offers Reminders for Public

By KMAN Staff on August 7, 2013 Local News, Manhattan, Riley County

RCPD CoinRiley County Police Department Captain Kurt Muldrop reports that Part 1 Crimes are significantly down, but he does says that a certain crime – vehicle burglary – seems to be on the rise.  Muldrop points out the most affected areas are communities in the northwest part of Manhattan, east and south of CiCo Park, and north of popular bar and shopping district, Aggieville.  Muldrop says he does believe these crimes may increase as many students are returning to the area – a number of them with packed vehicles.  Muldrop cautions all residents to remove valuable items from the vehicle or from sight and to lock all doors.

Muldrop also recommends to remove valuables from your yard or porches.  He says property theft is usually a crime of opportunity, as he has seen in many missing bike incidents in Manhattan.  A number of these cases are solved as the missing bike is simply used to get to another place and then dumped.

Lastly, Captain Muldrop reminds all residents that in spite of the cool weather, all doors and windows to residences should be locked.  Unlocked homes and buildings are seen as more inticing to criminals, says Muldrop.
