WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A longtime Kansas House member says he’ll resign from the Legislature at the end of next month’s special session.
Democrat Nile Dillmore told The Wichita Eagle on Thursday the decision is tied to his planned October retirement from his regular job with a Wichita credit union.
The 65-year-old lawmaker says it’s time for him to seek “some other things to do.”
Dillmore was first elected to the House in 2000. After a federal court-ordered redrawing of the state’s political boundaries last year, he defeated Republican state Rep. Brenda Landwehr of Wichita to retain his seat.
He serves on the House Appropriations, Taxation and Elections committees.
Lawmakers convene their special session Sept. 3 to rewrite a law allowing judges to sentence convicted murderers to at least 50 years in prison.
