Two men convicted several years ago in separate area cases have apparently been passed over for parole following public comment sessions in August.
Clifford Burt’s, 42, next earliest possible release date is April of 2038. Burt has been serving time for Geary county convictions in 1991 of arson and attempted first degree murder. He faces similar convictions in Reno County, as well as attempting to influence a judicial officer in Ellsworth county
Also denied parole was Shawn McDiffett, 44, who was convicted in 1989 on drug manufacture and possession charges in Riley County. McDiffett also faces other types of charges in Sedgwick, Lyon, and Butler counties. McDiffett’s next earlierst possible release date is October of 2016.
