    October Sales Tax Numbers

October sales tax numbers are in and Manhattan Finance Director Bernie Hayen says he’s basking in the glow of the latest reports.

$1,010,865 was collected in Manhattan in October, which is $105,276 over last year. The city had budgeted for $833,304 so the on million dollar number is about $117,174 more than that.

Hayen attributes the big bump from intercollegiate athletics. The City Finance Director adds with two months remaining in the year, the city is slightly ahead of last year’s record total. Hayen adds the city should be close by year’s end to the total sales taxes collected in 2012.

October sales were up in nearly every area for Manhattan. A reminder the reporting period for October actually reflects mid-August and early September retail sales across the community.
