Royals Give Ned Yost Two-Year Extension

After leading the Kansas City Royals to their best record in 24 years, the club announced on Tuesday morning that manager Ned Yost has been rewarded with a two-year contract extension. Yost’s contract expired after this season, but general manager Dayton Moore said last week he was bringing him back.

The Royals finished 10 games above the .500 mark at 86-76, the franchise’s best record since they went 92-70 in 1989. Yost’s club won 42 games after the All-Star break, most in the American League in the second half.

Yost took over as manager on May 13, 2010, succeeding Trey Hillman. In his four seasons, his teams have a 284-329 record. Including almost six seasons as Milwaukee Brewers manager from 2003-08, Yost’s record stands at 741-831 over nearly 10 full seasons.
