    Talk of Junietta Project Resurfaces

Pottawatomie County commissionersDuring Monday’s Pottawatomie County Commission, there was a brief discussion on where to go with the Junietta Project.

The commission believes they should move forward with a consultant to work on how the project will be done.  They do, however, want to continue discussion with Riley County on whether or not they will be involved on the project.  The thought now may be to have the connection be from Dire road and Lake Elbow.

Commissioner Gary Yenzer expressed his desire to move on.

“We can’t wait on our part,” Yenzer said.

The commission wants to move forward on this project to encourage growth in the area.

As part of the meeting, the commission was told that the demolition of the old jail should begin sometime this week.

Department updates and zoning requests filled the rest of the agenda.

Tim Eisenbarth, Noxious Weed Director, told the commission he has purchased a trailer for the recycling of cardboard.  They are, however, on the lookout for another one.

Betty Abitz, Register of Deeds, brought her report telling the commission her department has gathered $47,065.26 in total revenue.

Leslie Campbell, Health Director, explained they are giving out flu vaccines, preparing for the Take Back day on October 26, and a couple of events for elementary students.
