MHS Boys Soccer Falls In 6A Final

    0
By KMAN Staff on November 10, 2013 High School Sports, Manhattan High School

The magical run for the Manhattan High School Boys Soccer team came to an end Saturday at Junction City High School as the Tribe lost to Blue Valley Northwest 2-0 in the Class 6A State Final. Manhattan had reached the Final on Friday night with a 2-0 win over Olathe East in the State Semifinals.

Coach Frank Alonso’s squad had an incredible run through the 2013 season by finishing 17-4-1 and winning the Regional Championship by snapping Washburn Rural’s 37-match home winning streak in the process.

The Soccer team’s berth in the State Final is part of quite a run by Manhattan High Athletics that’s still in progress. On November 2, the MHS Boys Cross Country team won its first State Championship in 29 years while the Girls team finished 6th in the State. On Friday night the MHS Football team advanced to the 6A State Quarterfinals with an improbable 60-59 five-overtime victory on the road at Maize after trailing 24-7 in the fourth quarter. The Tribe will host Derby in the Quarterfinals Friday night at Bishop Stadium.
