Manhattan Metropolitan area unemployment numbers just released for October were down from the previous month, but still a bit higher than last year at the same time. The Kansas Department of Labor indicates Manhattan metro, which includes Riley, Pottawatomie, and Geary Counties is 4.7 percent, compared to 5.2 in September and 4.5 in October of last year.

The city of Manhattan by itself had a 3.9 percent rate compared to 4.4 in September and 3.8 last year.

County numbers included Rilely County with four percent, Pottawatomie with 4.5, Geary with 6.7, and Clay County with 4.1.

The Manhattan Metropolitan area had the second lowest unemployment rate in the state, with 4.7 percent in October. The Lawrence metro area’s rate was 4.3 percent this last reporting period by the Kansas Department of Labor. The city of Manhattan’s 3.9 percent rate also compares favorably to other cities in the state. The only other two cities with a lower rate were Leawood with 3.4 and Dodge city with 3.8 percent.
