Soldiers, their families and the Fort Riley community gathered on a chilly Thursday evening to celebrate the start of the holiday season with the annual Fort Riley Tree Lighting Ceremony.
Major General Paul Funk provided a few short remarks and thanked military members for their service to our country.
“Beth and I, we want to wish you, in what ever denomination or however you worship, happy holidays, happy new year and thank you all for serving this great nation that we all love so much.”
Fort Riley’s Family of the Year, Sgt. Dean A. Tubbs and his wife Kelli, received the honor of lighting the tree. The event included performances by the Fort Riley children s choir, the Army Spouses Choir and a visit from Santa Claus.
