The merger of American Airlines and U-S Airways took effect Monday, and Manhattan Regional Airport Director Peter Van Kuren indicates the legal completion of the merger ends a period of uncertainty that was first caused by American’s bankruptcy, followed by the merger announcement that was overshadowed by a federal lawsuit.
Van Kuren says, in his words “We are pleased that this very important step has occurred which will begin the process of combining two great airlines into one greater airline that will service Manhattan for years to come.”
Van Kuren doesn’t expect any negative impact to existing service to Dallas/Fort Worth and O’Hare in Chicago. Van Kuren adds “as the two airlines consolidate their assets, we will be looking for opportunities to better serve the Flint Hills region.”
