Will Spradling and Marcus Foster scored 14 points apiece as the Kansas State Wildcats got off to a hot start and put the game out of reach early in a 72-43 victory over Troy Sunday evening at Bramlage Coliseum.
Unlike last Tuesday’s contest against South Dakota which K-State hung on to win by two points, the Wildcats bolted out to an early 14-2 lead on the Trojans out of the Sun Belt Conference in the game’s first four minutes. K-State forced Troy into numerous turnovers and won the battle of rebounding on the Offensive glass to stretch the lead to 22-7 with 8:35 left in the half. Even with Foster and Wesley Iwundu shaken up with minor injuries during the first half, the Wildcats continued the onslaught even getting a jumper from reserve Brian Rohleder off the bench as Kansas State cruised into halftime holding a 37-15 advantage.
The second half began much like the first half as the Cats continued to add to the lead at 50-17 with 14:28 remaining. The Trojans then had their best stretch of the game by going on a 9-0 run in two minutes and 20 seconds to cut the lead to 50-26, but Troy could draw no loser than 20 points the rest of the way as K-State turned on the jets and picked up their seventh win of the season and fifth in a row.
With K-State ahead by a comfortable margin much of the game, many players saw action off the bench. Among the other notable scorers for Kansas State were Thomas Gipson with nine points, Shane Southwell and Nino Williams with seven apiece, Iwundu with six points and Nigel Johnson with five.
Kansas State (7-3) will next be in action on Saturday when they host Gonzaga in the Wichita Wildcat Classic at Intrust Bank Arena. Tipoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
