Fort Riley’s Trees for Troops program helped make Christmas brighter and greener for over 100 active-duty soldiers and their families Saturday morning.
“Instead of having to go out and hunt one down by hand yourself or fight through the crowds at a store to get one, the MWR and the people who are doing trees stuff are helping out big time.” said Sgt. Eric Paxton.
Kavan Wilson, a JROTC Cadet from Junction City, was one of the many volunteers who loaded trees and said he enjoyed spreading holiday cheer.
“The experience of Trees for Troops today was a pretty good feeling to give back to the community.”
The winter weather prevented half of the trees from making the trip from Oklahoma to Fort Riley. However, soldiers who attended the event and didn’t receive a tree were given vouchers for when the shipment arrives early this week.
Approximately 350 trees were distributed as part of the Trees for Troops program.
