The Manhattan High girls basketball team ran its win streak up to five games with a 63-43 win at Junction City on Friday night. Both teams struggled to hang on to the basketball as there was a combined 49 turnovers between the two teams.

MHS led by eight at the end of the first half but offensively got things going in the second half to pull away from the Lady Blue Jays. Caroline Ballard led MHS with a game high 16 points, Darby Price finished with 10 points and Savannah Thaemert and Amara Ehie chipped in with nine apiece.

The MHS girls will be back at it at home on Tuesday night with a tilt against Washburn Rural.

The Manhattan High boys basketball team went down to the wire against Junction City in what was a very exciting game from start to finish. Both teams struggled shooting the ball in the first half as the score was just 17-14 at the halfway mark.

The game was back and forth throughout the second half as both teams were trading baskets down the stretch. Manhattan led 33-32 and Junction City had the basketball with 11 seconds left to go but great defense by the Tribe made JC force a bad three point shot and Gabe Awbrey knocked down two free throws to seal the deal for the Indians to snap their two game losing streak.

The Manhattan High boys will head to the Dodge City Tournament of Champions starting on Thursday afternoon with a first round match up with Wichita Heights.
