The Manhattan High girls basketball team opened up the 19th annual Mid America Classic at McPherson in convincing fashion with a 60-24 win in the first round over Hays. The Tribe defense was key throughout the ballgame, forcing 18 first half turnovers and a total of 30 in the game.

MHS was paced by Darby Price with a stout double-double; 14 points and 14 rebounds. Caroline Ballard was solid as well, scoring 13 points and grabbing nine boards. In all, 11 Manhattan girls scored in the ballgame. Many of the younger girls got the opportunity to see the floor as Manhattan was dominant throughout.

The Indians improve their overall record to 10-1 on the season and will be matched up with Shawnee Mission South in the semi-finals of the Mid America Classic. Pregame coverage on KMAN will begin around 5:45 p.m. on Friday night with the tip off scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
