Both Manhattan High and Emporia were heading into Friday night’s contest with winning streaks. The Manhattan High girls were rolling into Emporia with a six game winning streak while the Spartans were riding high on a three game winning streak.

These two teams met back on December 20th right before the holiday break with Manhattan winning in convincing fashion 66-40. It was a much different story on the road as Emporia forced overtime by hitting a long two point shot at the buzzer to tie things up at 34-34. The Indians used clutch defensive stops and free throws to outscore the Spartans 16-7 in the overtime period.

Caroline Ballard and Darby Price led the way for MHS with 14 points apiece. Amara Ehie also in double figures for Manhattan with 11 points. With the win, the Indians improve their record to 9-1 overall with still a spotless record inside the Centennial league at 6-0.

The Manhattan girls basketball team are off to their mid season tournament next week at McPherson for the Mid America Classic. The Indians are the #1 overall seed in the tourney and will get 0-10 Hays in the first round. Tip off for that game will be at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with pregame coverage beginning at 4:15 on Newsradio 1350 KMAN.
