The Manhattan high basketball team closed out the regular season on an emotional senior night inside the MHS gymnasium. The girls contest was a dandy of a match up with the Centennial League crown on the line. Both Seaman and MHS were at 12-0 in league play heading into Friday nights contest.

Seaman was led in scoring by Tatyana Legette with 13 points but was held to just two points in the second half and that was key in Manhattan’s 47-38 victory over Seaman to capture an outright Centennial league title. Darby Price led the way with 19 points for the Indians and Caroline Ballard had 13 second half points to finish with 14 points in the ball game. Emotional night for Price, along side Erika Hairgrove and Par McNair who were recognized on Senior night.

The MHS girls will host Wichita Southeast in the first round of Sub-State next Wednesday night.

The Manhattan high boy’s basketball team got a big momentum win over Seaman 62-51 heading into Sub-State next week. Gabe Awbrey led the way for Manhattan with 18 points while the lone senior on the roster Alex Stitt finished the night with 13 points. Stitt got a very nice ovation late in the game, gave a little kiss to the center of the court as he was greeted by his teammates on the bench.

With the way the night finished, the MHS boys will host Topeka High on Thursday night in the first round of Sub-State.
